Solana taxes in Germany

How SOL, swaps, staking and everything else on Solana are taxed in Germany, and which protocols TaxMaxi reads for you.

In short

If you sell or swap SOL or another token on Solana within a year of buying it, the gain is taxable under § 23 of the Income Tax Act (EStG). It stays tax-free if all such gains of the year together come to less than €1,000, and always after more than a year.

Rewards from staking and lending are income under § 22 Nr. 3 EStG, at their euro value on the day they arrive. They stay tax-free as long as they come to less than €256 for the year in total. Staking doesn't extend the one-year holding period.

As of:

What is taxed how

What you do on Solana and how it counts for tax. The paragraph numbers open the BMF letter at the spot a sentence rests on.

Buying and selling SOL
A sale for euros is a disposal. The gain is the proceeds minus the purchase price and the fees. It's taxable if you held the SOL for no more than a year (paragraph 53).
Swapping token for token
Every swap sells what you give up and buys what you get, memecoins and stablecoins included. For the new token, the one-year holding period starts again (paragraphs 54 and 55). JupiterRaydiumPump.funDFlow
Staking SOL
Staking itself isn't a sale: your SOL are locked, not transferred (paragraph 13). Each epoch's reward, roughly every two days, is income at its value on the day it's credited (paragraph 48). Solana staking
Liquid staking
SOL for mSOL, JitoSOL or another liquid staking token is a swap. Measured in SOL the token grows in value, but nothing is credited to you: the growth only shows as a gain when you swap back. MarinadeJitoSanctum
Lending
Lending isn't a sale, the tokens stay yours. The interest is income when it arrives, and at the latest at the end of the year (paragraph 65). KaminomarginfiJupiter Lend
Perps and leverage
A leveraged position is a forward transaction (Termingeschäft): its result is capital income under § 20 EStG, with no one-year holding period and no €1,000 limit. You can only offset losses against other capital income. Jupiter PerpsDriftFlash Trade
Airdrops
An airdrop you didn't have to do anything for isn't income (paragraph 74). If you had to do something for it, it is, at its value on receipt (paragraph 75).
Between your own wallets
That isn't a sale, because nothing goes to anyone else (paragraph 54): the token keeps its purchase date and cost basis.
Over a bridge
If you send a token to your own wallet on another chain and it arrives there as the same token, on TaxMaxi's reading that isn't a sale. There is no express rule on it. If a different token arrives, it's a swap. More on this under Crypto bridges and taxes.

What TaxMaxi reads

TaxMaxi reads these protocols itself: every transaction is recognized, valued in euros and placed for tax.

  • JupiterDEX aggregator

How are Jupiter swaps taxed in Germany?

Swaps that Jupiter routes through other protocols' pools.

  • DFlowDEX aggregator

How are DFlow swaps taxed in Germany?

Swaps that wallet apps send through DFlow, with the rent for new token accounts. If what you received goes to another address, TaxMaxi puts the swap in front of you in the review.

  • JitoLiquid staking

How is liquid staking with Jito taxed in Germany?

SOL for JitoSOL through Jito's stake pool. TaxMaxi puts a stake account going into the pool or coming out of it in front of you in the review.

  • KaminoLending

How is lending on Kamino taxed in Germany?

Kamino Lend, the vaults and the farms: deposits and withdrawals, the interest at each year end, loans and their repayment, liquidations, farm stakes and rewards. TaxMaxi puts loops and flash loans in front of you in the review.

  • MarinadeLiquid staking

How is liquid staking with Marinade taxed in Germany?

SOL for mSOL and back, directly or through an app, delayed unstakes too. TaxMaxi puts a stake account you swap for mSOL in front of you in the review.

  • Pump.funLaunchpad

How are Pump.fun memecoins taxed in Germany?

Buys and sells on the bonding curve, then on PumpSwap.

  • SanctumLiquid staking

How is liquid staking with Sanctum taxed in Germany?

SOL for the tokens of its stake pools, such as jupSOL, and for INF, also when your app wrapped the SOL first.

  • RaydiumDEX

How are Raydium swaps taxed in Germany?

Swaps on the AMM v4, CLMM and CPMM pools, liquidity positions on CLMM as with Orca, and liquidity on AMM v4 and CPMM for the LP token: putting tokens into the pool is a swap into the LP token, taking them out a swap back. If both tokens come back when you withdraw from a CLMM position, the fee is inside the same amount; TaxMaxi reads the split from the log Raydium's program writes into the transaction.

  • Solana stakingStaking

How is SOL staking taxed in Germany?

SOL you stake and take back, and each epoch's reward on the day it was credited.

  • DriftPerpetuals

How are perps on Drift taxed in Germany?

Deposits and withdrawals as your own tokens, swaps in the account as swaps. The result of your perps is in Drift's own records: you enter it once per subaccount and year, and it counts as capital income. If more comes out than went in, TaxMaxi asks you in the review what it was; it puts the vaults, the insurance fund and spot orders in front of you there.

  • Flash TradePerpetuals

How are Flash Trade perps taxed in Germany?

Positions against Flash Trade's pools, wound down in 2026: the collateral as your own tokens, the result of each close as capital income, liquidations as a loss. TaxMaxi puts the FLP pool and FAF staking in front of you in the review.

  • Jupiter LendLending

How is lending on Jupiter Lend taxed in Germany?

Earn and the vaults: deposits and withdrawals, the interest at each year end, loans and their repayment. TaxMaxi puts loops and liquidations in front of you in the review.

  • Jupiter PerpsPerpetuals

How are perps on Jupiter taxed in Germany?

Positions against the JLP pool: the collateral in and back as your own tokens, the result of each close as capital income. TaxMaxi reads a liquidation from the position's history.

  • marginfiLending

How is lending on marginfi taxed in Germany?

Deposits and withdrawals at marginfi, also in banks that lend on to Kamino, the interest at withdrawal, loans and their repayment, liquidations. TaxMaxi puts flash loans, loops and withdrawals whose deposits it hasn't all read in front of you in the review.

  • OrcaDEX

Swaps directly on a Whirlpool and your liquidity positions: putting tokens into the position is a swap, taking them out a swap back. Fees are income when you collect them. TaxMaxi puts a position opened before your history begins in front of you in the review.

    1 program on the chain

  • SPL stake poolsLiquid staking

SOL for the tokens of other stake pools on the same program as Jito.

    1 program on the chain

  • DefiTunaLeveraged liquidity

Your positions on Orca and the Fusion pools: what DefiTuna lends into the position is your loan, which you repay at the close. Tokens going in are a swap into the position, tokens coming out a swap back, fees income when you collect them. TaxMaxi reads liquidations, limit orders and the automatic compounding of fees from the position's history. It puts a liquidation that swaps through Jupiter in front of you in the review.

    2 programs on the chain

  • Jupiter DAOGovernance

Locking JUP to vote, adding to the lock and unlocking, with no sale. Active Staking Rewards locked straight away when you collect them count as income on the day you collect them. TaxMaxi puts JUP that first comes into your wallet in front of you in the review.

    4 programs on the chain

  • Jupiter DCADCA orders

Each round is a swap at its own time, and the budget stays yours until then. TaxMaxi puts a DCA that began before your history in front of you in the review.

    1 program on the chain

  • Jupiter limit ordersLimit orders

Each fill is a swap at its own time, and the tokens in the order stay yours until then. TaxMaxi puts an order placed before your history in front of you in the review.

    2 programs on the chain

  • Kamino LiquidityLiquidity strategies

Kamino's managed positions on Orca, Raydium and Meteora: tokens into a strategy for its shares are a swap into the position, the shares back a swap back. If you put the shares into a Kamino farm, they stay your position. TaxMaxi puts a deposit whose swap runs through a stake pool in front of you in the review, and shares from a deposit it hasn't read or that lies before your history.

    1 program on the chain

  • WormholeBridge

Tokens you send to another chain over Wormhole: TaxMaxi asks you once per bridge whether the wallet there is yours and what arrived. Your own wallet with the same token is no disposal, and the holding moves there with its date and cost basis. What comes in over Wormhole counts like any other arrival, and what Wormhole keeps for its messages is a fee.

    2 programs on the chain

  • RelayBridge

A solver pays you out on the other chain from its own money, often in a different token.

    1 program on the chain

  • deBridgeBridge

An order on one chain that a solver fills on the other, often in a different token.

    2 programs on the chain

  • MayanBridge

Swift, the route behind Phantom, Backpack and Jupiter's bridge: a solver pays out on the other chain from its own funds, often in a different token. With MCTP and Fast MCTP, Circle's CCTP carries your USDC across, and with an order it's swapped there into a different token: TaxMaxi asks you once whether the wallet there is yours. What Mayan's relayer keeps of the USDC and the rent of the accounts are a fee.

    7 programs on the chain

  • Circle CCTP v1Bridge

USDC that Circle burns on one chain and issues anew on the other, in the older version: TaxMaxi asks you once whether the wallet there is yours. What comes in counts like any other arrival, and both sides carry the same number, so two of your wallets find each other on their own.

    2 programs on the chain

  • Circle CCTP v2Bridge

USDC that Circle burns on one chain and issues anew on the other, in the current version: TaxMaxi asks you once whether the wallet there is yours. What comes in counts like any other arrival, less Circle's fee on a fast transfer.

    2 programs on the chain

  • Wormhole CCTP ExecutorBridge

Wormhole's CCTP Executor: a relayer collects your USDC on the other chain for you. What you pay it in SOL and what the app keeps of the USDC are a fee.

    2 programs on the chain

  • LayerZero OFTBridge

Tokens their issuers send between chains over LayerZero, each with its own program: TaxMaxi asks you once whether the wallet there is yours, and what you pay LayerZero in SOL is a fee. This includes USDT over USDT0: what USDT0 and the app keep is a fee too. What comes in counts like any other arrival, and both sides carry the same number, so two of your wallets find each other on their own.

    4 programs on the chain

  • AcrossBridge

A deposit on one chain that a relayer pays out on the other from its own money, usually in the same token: TaxMaxi asks you once whether the wallet there is yours. What the app keeps beside the deposit is a fee. Since July 2026, Across has sent your USDC over Circle's CCTP.

    3 programs on the chain

  • Allbridge CoreBridge

Stablecoins, until July 2026 over Allbridge's pools, since then over Circle's CCTP and LayerZero: TaxMaxi asks you once whether the wallet there is yours and what arrived. Allbridge's share, the gas in SOL or ABR0 and the rent of its accounts are a fee. What comes in over the pools counts like any other arrival, sometimes a different stablecoin from the one that left.

    4 programs on the chain

  • NEAR Omni BridgeBridge

NEAR's bridge between Solana and NEAR, also the way NEAR Intents pays out on Solana: TaxMaxi asks you once whether the wallet there is yours and what arrived. The bridge's fee in the token and the SOL for its relayer and Wormhole's message are a fee. What comes in from NEAR counts like any other arrival.

    1 program on the chain

  • Base–Solana BridgeBridge

Base's own bridge to Solana, the Base app's route: TaxMaxi asks you once whether the wallet on Base is yours and what arrived. The bridge's gas and the rent of its message accounts, which never comes back, are a fee, even if you prove a message from Base yourself. What comes in from Base counts like any other arrival, and both sides carry the same ID, so two of your wallets find each other on their own as soon as TaxMaxi reads Base too.

    2 programs on the chain

The same principles apply on every chain: Crypto taxes on Ethereum. What is the same everywhere and what each chain does differently: Crypto taxes by blockchain.

What TaxMaxi does not read yet

These protocols turn up in real wallets. Until TaxMaxi reads them, it puts their transactions in front of you in the review, and you say what happened. That way nothing gets lost.

  • MeteoraDEXNext up

Swaps on DLMM, DAMM and the bonding curve, and your liquidity as with Orca: positions on DLMM and DAMM v2, the LP token on DAMM v1. If you take only part out of a DLMM position with several deposits, TaxMaxi puts that in front of you in the review.

Common questions

Is Solana tax-free after a year?

Yes. If you hold SOL or another token on Solana for more than a year before you sell or swap it, the gain is tax-free, however large. The period runs separately for each purchase and starts again after every swap. Staking doesn't extend it to ten years (paragraph 63).

Are gains under €1,000 tax-free?

Yes, if all your gains from private sales in a year come to less than €1,000 together; you deduct the year's losses first. It's an exemption limit (Freigrenze), not an allowance (Freibetrag): from €1,000, the whole gain is taxable, not just the part above it. Until 2023 the limit was €600 (paragraph 53).

How is SOL staking taxed?

Each reward is income under § 22 Nr. 3 EStG, at its euro value on the day it's credited to your stake account. If such income stays under €256 for the year in total, it's tax-free. You acquire the SOL from the reward on that day: if you sell them within a year, a gain on them is taxable (paragraph 48).

Is a swap on Solana taxable?

For tax, a swap is an exchange: you sell one token and buy the other. The gain is the euro value of what you get, minus what the token you gave up cost you. If you held that token for no more than a year, the gain is taxable, subject to the €1,000 limit (paragraph 54).

How does the tax office find out about my Solana transactions?

Since 2026, crypto exchanges and other providers in the EU report their customers' transactions to the tax authorities (the EU directive DAC8). Nobody reports what you do in your own wallet. It is public on the blockchain, though, and the exchange you pay euros in and out through knows your addresses. You state your gains and income in your tax return yourself.

Will crypto tax change in 2027?

Maybe. In September 2026 the finance ministry presented a draft: crypto assets bought from 2027 would be taxed as capital income at 25%, with no one-year holding period. What was bought by the end of 2026 would stay under the one-year holding period. None of this has been passed yet. For the tax years up to 2026, what's on this page applies.

How do I create a tax report for my Solana wallet?

You enter your wallet's public address in TaxMaxi. TaxMaxi reads every transaction, values it in euros and places it by the principles on this page. What the blockchain doesn't reveal, such as whether another wallet is yours too, it asks you. At the end there's a report per tax year as a PDF, every item with its paragraph of the BMF letter. The first 25 transactions are free.
